2010 Mission Investment Projects

Each year the portion of Sabbath School Mission Investment Funds that are received by the North American Division are allocated to projects in two of our nine Unions on a rotating basis.  The investment funds that are received in 2010 will go to projects in the Columbia Union and Southern Union.

Columbia Union Projects

WGTS 91.9 Chaplaincy Outreach Ministries
This is a project proposed directly by the Columbia Union.  They want to fund a chaplain to serve the WGTS radio station by coordinating outreach programs for their listeners.  WGTS has over 600,000 listeners and it is estimated that 40% do not attend church.  With its strategic location it is hoped that adding a more spiritual component will be of service to many listeners.  Terry Johnson has been hired to be the chaplain who will coordinate the program and train pastors to assist him.

Life Skillls Academy --  Allegheny East Conference
This project is being coordinated by the First Seventh-day Adventist Church of Montclair, New Jersey.  "Life Skills Academy" is designed to help people in the community around the church to master skills that will enable them to be more successful in life.  The program is already underway as part of their community services program.

Southern Union Projects

Adventist Community Center -- International Drive, Orlando, Florida
The Florida Conference has initiated this project to serve as an oasis to the 52 million visitors who come to central Florida each year.  The shopping area on International Ddrive is a major center for the tourist traffic.  This group plans to rent a facility for a two-year period, and staff it with young people from the Orlando area to provide spiritual counseling, information, and phone and internet access.  They anticipate involving 20 young people in this project to enroll people in Bible studies and distribute Adventist literature.

"Hope on the Move" Ministry Bus
The Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church in Atlanta, Georgia is proposing to equip a bus to provide services to the community around their church.  They would like to equip a self-contained educational bus to offer character building, healthful living, and soul saving programs and information to local communities in Atlanta.
